Safety in Wearing Stiletto Heels
High rising stiletto heels are now very fashionable. Heels that measure to as much as five inches are common and being used by models and celebrities in different countries. Those who can’t wear this length often resort to the longest that they could so that they would be up to date with the latest fashion.
However, the high rising stilettos also increase the risk of being injured. Those who are inexperienced of wearing this type of shoes are just exposing themselves to greater risk as a single misstep with this type of shoes could mean ankle and related foot injury.
If you are considering this type of shoes, it is important to consider safety before buying this type of shoes. You would literally become a fashion victim if you can’t handle long heeled stilettos.
The General Rule
If you are considering wearing high heeled stilettos, remember that your feet could only handle the weight of your body for a few hours. The general rule in heeled stilettos is that your feet could only handle your body for two to three hours. Anything beyond that is already dangerous to your feet. Some would put the threshold on 2.5 inches but if you have shorter feet, your threshold should also be shorter. To know if your feet could handle the heels you’ll wear, measure the heels against your feet. If the heels will cover almost half of your feet, limit the use to a couple of hours.
Slow Integration
There are those who wanted to push themselves in wearing high rise stilettos. If you are one of those who wanted to wear this type of shoes, be sure to slowly integrate your feet into these high rise stilettos. No one will get the first time as those who are experienced in this type of stilettos still stumble occasionally.
The best way of integrating your feet into these challenging stilettos is to practice with thick heels first. Stilettos usually come in with very thin heels and would be very difficult to handle if you are not familiar in handling them. Start with something thick and slowly move into thinner heels once you get the drift. It is also important to start with a strap so that you will be able to protect your ankle. When walking with this type of shoes, imagine you’re walking in a tightrope and let your body sway to adjust to the weight. Remember that the weight of your body will be handled by the toes. If you will not help in distributing your weight by swaying, you are increasing the stress on your toes.
Use Only When Necessary
As already indicated, limit your use of heels up to three hours only. Never use this type of shoes when you’re planning to visit the mall the whole day or any event where you will have to do a lot of walking. If you think you really need this type of shoes on those areas, bring an extra pair of shoes so that your toes will not be stressed too much.
